Argus FONG Tsz Leong
White Night
13 June – 11 July 2026
Opening Reception: 13 June 2026 (Sat), 2-6 pm
Three years after "Hilltop" (山頭故事), Argus Fong Tsz-leong returns with "White Night" , presenting 15 new oil paintings that mark a significant breakthrough in composition and emotional intensity.
Recognized for his night landscapes, Fong renders winding paths and rural scenes under moonlight, creating a mysterious atmosphere. His technique pairs delicate brushwork capturing light and shadow shifts with fluid strokes inspired by Chinese ink painting. This surface treatment creates movement across the canvas, guiding the viewer’s eye like wind or rain. Rooted in Romantic landscape traditions yet contemporary, the works fuse observation with lyrical expression.
Set in Hong Kong’s suburban areas including Sha Tau Kok and Yuen Long, the paintings depict moonlight through mist and on damp stones, with straight roads as visual pathways. The exhibition "White Night" finds beauty in everyday nocturnal settings, softening the harsher aspects of modern development through light and atmosphere.
Artist Bio
FONG Tsz Leong, Argus, received his BA (Fine Art) degrees from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) University in 2015, major in painting. In recent years, Argus’s creation has started with urban walks, piecing together with his personal understanding, wandering memories, and thoughts to present his feelings and associations about identity, human nature, and a place in his works. He uses media such as oil paint, pastel, and charcoal to display records of linear brushstrokes, exploring the expressions of quick sketches and paintings. He also creates art on found objects. Letting the traces on the surface of these objects guide his sketches. His works are held in the collection of the Vancouver Art Gallery and various private collections.
