๐™€๐™˜๐™๐™ค๐™š๐™จ ๐™ค๐™› ๐™‰๐™–๐™ฉ๐™ช๐™ง๐™š โ€“ A Solo Exhibition by CHAN Kwan-lok

Grotto Fine Art is delighted to present ๐™€๐™˜๐™๐™ค๐™š๐™จ ๐™ค๐™› ๐™‰๐™–๐™ฉ๐™ช๐™ง๐™š, a solo exhibition by Hong Kong artist ๐—–๐—›๐—”๐—ก ๐—ž๐˜„๐—ฎ๐—ป-๐—น๐—ผ๐—ธ, running from March 8 to April 12, 2025. The exhibition focuses on CHAN's latest series of works, created using the traditional biamiao (fine brush painting) technique. Through delicate and refined lines, the artist explores the interplay between permanence and impermanence in nature, showcasing the rhythm of life and profound emotions within the landscapes.

The exhibition title, ๐˜Œ๐˜ค๐˜ฉ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฆ๐˜ด ๐˜ฐ๐˜ง ๐˜•๐˜ข๐˜ต๐˜ถ๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ, draws inspiration from the novel of the same name by Yasunari Kawabata. In the novel, the fleeting sound of the mountain evokes a deep reflection on impermanence. Similarly, CHAN Kwan-lok turns to nature as a source of solace amidst personal experiences of loss, observing the cycles of life and decay in insects and plants. Using the biamiao technique, CHAN captures these subtle transformations, reinterpreting mountains as ever-changing living entities, revealing the interconnectedness and continuous flow of life in the natural world. As an essential form of traditional Chinese art, Biamiao emphasizes the use of line work to depict both form and spirit. In ๐˜Œ๐˜ค๐˜ฉ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฆ๐˜ด ๐˜ฐ๐˜ง ๐˜•๐˜ข๐˜ต๐˜ถ๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ , CHAN skillfully integrates this classical technique into a contemporary context, capturing the unspoken language of nature and the beauty of life's transitions.

The book offers a comprehensive look into the artist's creative journey and philosophy from 2019 to the present, providing an opportunity for audiences to gain deeper insight into CHAN's artistic practice.

About the Artist

Chan Kwan Lok(b.1992) is keen on exploring the feasibility of lines through depictions of the motions of human and nature. Using rhythmic lines to construct a rigorous yet subtle framework, Chan portrays ordinary objects, people, and marine animals to create a whimsical fantasy. His works are part of the collection at the Hong Kong Museum of Art and are also held in private collections.
